Signal & Hinge is a small static publication about the overlooked boundary between movable desk hardware and the cables that have to move with it. The articles focus on monitor arms, mounting surfaces, connector passages, sleeves, clips, docks, service loops, and maintenance records. They treat neat appearance as a secondary outcome. The first goal is a route that remains understandable while the display changes position and the support hardware stays open to inspection.

Nora Venn is a fictional editor created for a consistent first-person editorial voice. Her portrait is a generated illustration of that invented identity, not a photograph of an employee, engineer, electrician, ergonomist, installer, or product tester. The publication does not claim that Nora holds a license, certification, workshop, testing laboratory, or professional practice. The disclosure matters because an approachable voice should not be mistaken for credentials that do not exist.

The editorial method begins with a mechanism map. A draft identifies the load path, moving joints, connector directions, intended screen positions, and the point where a traveling cable becomes part of a fixed desk route. Advice is shaped around observable conditions: a plug that rotates, a cover that bulges, a sleeve that migrates, a clamp that shifts, or slack that enters a pivot. Where a manufacturer’s instructions or rated limits apply, those sources take priority over general editorial explanation.

The site does not claim controlled hands-on product testing. A guide may describe a cautious home observation, such as tracing an arm’s planned motion while equipment is powered down or recording the path of an unplugged lead. These procedures are explicitly limited. They do not prove electrical performance, structural safety, standards compliance, medical suitability, or compatibility for equipment that has not been identified and checked.

Technical boundaries are part of the method. The articles do not invent universal torque, clearance, bend-radius, load-margin, electrical separation, or cable-performance numbers. Specific thresholds belong to the relevant equipment and authoritative guidance. Damaged hardware, questionable electrical behavior, unusual heat or odor, unsupported loads, and conditions outside user-serviceable instructions are stop points for suitable professional or manufacturer support.
